When the story of this class is written, it opens with Jamaree Caldwell at Round 3, Pick 14, a reach of 53 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.
Trapilo falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with quarterback the one that mattered most.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 16th overall pick they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Jihaad Campbell at slot 47 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. It fills a real need, too.
Jamaree Caldwell at pick No. 78 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Ozzy Trapilo at the Round 4 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board had Tyler Shough higher than No. 153, and the quarterback fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
