Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Packers spent Round 3, Pick 25 on Cedric Gray, a name the board had a full 26 spots lower.
They will answer for taking linebacker early while running back, wide receiver and other spots went begging. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
Cooper DeJean in the Round 1 slot is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No edge and no loss on Tyler Nubin in the 33rd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Payton Wilson at the 58th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A surprising call. With running back, wide receiver and other spots still to address, they spent pick No. 88 on Cedric Gray, a linebacker they were not short of.
Elijah Jones is a better player than Round 4, Pick 26 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid sticker price for Braiden McGregor in No. 169, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They jumped the gun on Garret Greenfield, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It fills a real need, too.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Andrew Raym well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A straight-up fair deal on Jalen Sundell at the Round 7 slot, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Sam Hartman. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
