You build a draft on nights like this. Zy Alexander had no business being available in pick 202, and the Commanders did the only sane thing and turned in the card. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A- to show for it.
The Rattler reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, JC Latham and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 20 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A real head-scratcher, Spencer Rattler in the Round 2 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the 58th pick is the proof. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They took Christian Mahogany at par in pick 81, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A slide stopped in the Round 4 slot, with Tyleik Williams worth more than the price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Mike Sainristil at No. 156 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Connor Colby in Round 5, Pick 26. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reach for Joe Milton III in the 180th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A cornerback of that caliber at pick No. 202 is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Walter Rouse at slot 248 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
