The Cowboys torched the value chart for Eric Gentry, taking him 58 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
Trevor Etienne at the 62nd pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Value said wait; Donovan Edwards in the 101st overall pick says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Gentry Williams in slot 126. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Fentrell Cypress II well ahead of where he belonged. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Sean Martin at Round 6, Pick 30 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jaheim Oatis. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A real head-scratcher, Deontae Lawson in the 220th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A wild overpay on Power Echols in the Round 7 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They reached into another round for Eric Gentry, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
