You build a draft on nights like this. Dylan Fairchild had no business being available in slot 220, and the Patriots did the only sane thing and turned in the card. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. The back end got a real overhaul.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th pick they get a ballhawk on the outside. More want than need.
Wyatt Milum at No. 38 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
Tate Ratledge at pick No. 69 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board had Jalen Royals higher than slot 77, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Walter Nolen in Round 4, Pick 3 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They robbed the room for Ashton Jeanty here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They barely believed it either: Lander Barton still on the board at the Round 7 slot. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Dylan Fairchild at pick 220 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick 238 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
