The Packers put a flag in the ground for Tanor Bortolini, 33 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. With edge rusher, quarterback and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on DT-EDGE is the choice that costs them.
Landing DeJean that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a lockdown presence outside, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Tyler Guyton in No. 36; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Quinyon Mitchell at the Round 2 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Edgerrin Cooper at pick No. 57 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Fair-plus on Javon Bullard, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went DT-EDGE with Maason Smith while clear needs at edge rusher, quarterback and other spots sat open.
They took MarShawn Lloyd at par in No. 125, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They reached into another round for Tanor Bortolini, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
