The Chiefs spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Tahj Washington, the No. 188 name on the board, in slot 233. Just about everything broke right, and the A- follows.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.
The Chiefs clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before. If Polk pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.
Pick-by-Pick
Adonai Mitchell at pick No. 39 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A reach on Ja'Lynn Polk in pick 64; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Malik Washington at No. 95 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Caelen Carson in Round 5, Pick 1 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Johnny Wilson is a better player than the 142nd pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A tidy bit of business in slot 173, where Walter Rouse graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They robbed the room for Dwight McGlothern here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.

Somehow Ryan Flournoy was still sitting there in pick 240, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They barely believed it either: Caedan Wallace still on the board at pick No. 244. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
By-the-book stuff, Jalen Coker at the 252nd pick squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
