If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Texans, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The Texans indulged a want in Smith while a need in interior defensive lineman, offensive lineman and other spots stayed open. Reaching for Smith left real value on the table behind him. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Allen.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 23rd overall pick they get a disruptor off the edge, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get a premier pass rusher, though they paid up to get him. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Xavier Legette at the 58th pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Maason Smith at DT-EDGE with interior defensive lineman, offensive lineman and other spots open.
Johnny Wilson in pick No. 90 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
