The war room fell hard for Sam Hartman, and it showed at Round 7, Pick 7: 33 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Getting Jenkins where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
Good price on Johnny Wilson in slot 35, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Kalen King in pick 38 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reach for Brian Thomas Jr. in the Round 2 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They let Kris Jenkins come to them and pounced at the 67th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Blake Corum at par in Round 3, Pick 6, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No drama and no debate, Cam Hart went about where he belonged in pick No. 103. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Cade Stover well ahead of where he belonged. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid a round early for Ben Sinnott in No. 143, more than the board wanted. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board had cheaper options than Darius Robinson at slot 184, and it noticed. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A real head-scratcher, Sam Hartman in pick 227 is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
