You could see the war room lean forward. Chau Smith-Wade at No. 186 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They will need McLachlan to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy little value on Kool-Aid McKinstry in the 25th overall pick, a step better than break-even. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Bralen Trice in the 53rd pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Zak Zinter in slot 91 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Chau Smith-Wade in Round 6, Pick 11, plain and simple. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
The board fumbled Michael Barrett all the way to pick No. 199, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A conviction pick on Phil Jurkovec at the Round 6 slot that the board grades a round light. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A real head-scratcher, Tanner McLachlan in No. 242 is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
