Cleveland Browns

The Browns bled value on every deal, hence the D+.

The Browns spent real capital to be 72 picks early on Seth McLaughlin, and the board is going to hold them to it. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D+.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. That Reed pick is the receipt they will wave around later. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
In slot 12 they get a lead back with juice, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
R1.29 · Pick 29 · Nick Emmanwori · S · rank 20
In the 29th pick they get a rangy last line of defense at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.1 · Pick 33 · Mike Green · DE-EDGE · rank 28
Mike Green in the Round 2 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Jaxson Dart · QB · rank 39
By-the-book stuff, Jaxson Dart at pick 34 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Derrick Harmon · DT · rank 29
A tidy bit of business in the 44th overall pick, where Derrick Harmon graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
R2.29 · Pick 61 · Azareye'h Thomas · CB · rank 60
Azareye'h Thomas in No. 61 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.1 · Pick 65 · Aireontae Ersery · OT · rank 48
Aireontae Ersery is a better player than the 65th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Jack Bech · WR · rank 66
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jack Bech. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Elijah Arroyo · TE · rank 75
A straight-up fair deal on Elijah Arroyo at pick No. 76, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.15 · Pick 79 · Demetrius Knight Jr. · LB · rank 59
Demetrius Knight Jr. in slot 79 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R3.30 · Pick 94 · Cam Skattebo · RB · rank 100
They paid sticker price for Cam Skattebo in No. 94, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.2 · Pick 103 · Ozzy Trapilo · OT · rank 85
Circle this one: Ozzy Trapilo at the Round 4 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.3 · Pick 104 · Charles Grant · OT · rank 94
Nice patience on Charles Grant, who had no business lasting to the 104th pick. It fills a real need, too.
R5.26 · Pick 165 · Seth McLaughlin · C · rank 237
They reached a country mile for Seth McLaughlin at Round 5, Pick 26, and the board is aghast. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.3 · Pick 181 · Connor Colby · OG · rank 175
A tidy little value on Connor Colby in the Round 6 slot, a step better than break-even. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R6.16 · Pick 194 · JJ Pegues · DT · rank 178
A slide stopped in pick No. 194, with JJ Pegues worth more than the price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.24 · Pick 202 · Jack Kiser · LB · rank 198
Jack Kiser at the 202nd overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R6.39 · Pick 217 · Jaylen Reed · S · rank 181
The board fumbled Jaylen Reed all the way to slot 217, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R7.3 · Pick 221 · KeAndre Lambert-Smith · WR · rank 191
KeAndre Lambert-Smith in Round 7, Pick 3 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.38 · Pick 256 · Tyler Loop · PK · rank 308
Tyler Loop at pick 256 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
R7.39 · Pick 257 · Kevin Jennings · QB · rank 259
They took Kevin Jennings at par in No. 257, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
