You build a draft on nights like this. Jordan Morgan had no business being available in the Round 2 slot, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Cohen reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
The Vita Vea deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Jordan Morgan at the 56th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Byron Murphy II in pick 63 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Malachi Corley at pick No. 87 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board had cheaper options than Javion Cohen at the 124th overall pick, and it noticed. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Ty'Ron Hopper at slot 174 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Bryce Foster at No. 212 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Willie Roberts in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
