The trade table was where it all came apart. The Dolphins shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.
Jayden Daniels gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. Fiske has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
That Bethune pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get the face of the franchise. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In the 7th overall pick they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Quinyon Mitchell at pick No. 15 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
In the Round 1 slot they get a go-to option on the outside, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
In slot 25 they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
In No. 27 they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
In the 30th pick they get a load in the middle, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid a round early for Chris Braswell in pick 35, more than the board wanted. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid sticker price for Tyler Nubin in the 41st overall pick, and that is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
No drama and no debate, Bralen Trice went about where he belonged in slot 58. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on Trey Benson at pick 86, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Blake Fisher in the 108th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
By-the-book stuff, AJ Barner at pick No. 169 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Cornelius Johnson in the Round 6 slot is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on M.J. Devonshire. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tatum Bethune at Round 7, Pick 21. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
