Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Texans spent the Round 5 slot on Jordan Hancock, a name most had 38 spots down the list. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Moore. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Trading back for volume was the quiet throughline of their weekend.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a true top target, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No edge and no loss on Alfred Collins in the 58th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jake Majors in No. 89, miles early. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They let Devin Neal come to them and pounced at the 95th overall pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A safety of that caliber at pick No. 126 is the definition of value, full stop. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They talked themselves into Pat Bryant at pick 127, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jordan Hancock at the Round 5 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Jaishawn Barham in Round 7, Pick 25 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
