The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Josh Newton, the No. 58 name on the board, sitting there at the 87th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep. No fireworks, but a solid B.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jordan Morgan. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Good price on Edgerrin Cooper in No. 66, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They will replay Josh Newton at pick 87 for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Christian Mahogany at slot 89 is the proof. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A straight-up fair deal on Justin Eboigbe at Round 4, Pick 24, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
