The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Josh Newton, the No. 58 name on the board, sitting there at the 87th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep. No fireworks, but a solid B.

They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
