Rueben Bain Jr. from Miami Central High School was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 4-star grade by 247 Sports. After high school, Bain Jr. joined Miami after being heavily recruited.In 2023 as a freshman Bain Jr. saw action in 13 games and played a total of 627 snaps for the Hurricanes. He recorded 26 tackles, 8 assists, while adding 27 stops. As a pass rusher, he added 45 total pressures, which included 26 QB hurries, 10 QB hits, and an excellent an excellent 9 sacks on the season.
As a sophomore for the Hurricanes in 2024 Bain Jr. played in one game and took part in 3 snaps for the Hurricanes. He recorded no tackles, no assists, while adding no stops.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Bain has violent hands and consistently breaks away and disengages from blockers. He’s instinctive, reading, reacting and locating the ball quickly, and finishing plays as an authoritative, wrap-up tackler.
- His handwork is excellent. He is tough against the run, playing with a firm base when setting the edge and showing the upper-body strength to stack and shed blockers.
- Aggressive with good awareness to track the ball and attack. Tenacious, tough, competItIve and versatile.
- He could fit as a 3-4 OLB, as Bain held his own when he was asked to drop into coverage at times.
- He can move laterally and chase in pursuit. A tough, violent tackler with a non-stop motor, he also shows good awareness when dropping into coverage.
- Bain explodes off the line with a quick first step, with agile feet to counter inside and closing burst to finish plays.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- He’s not a guy who can be put on the edge every down and be expected to consistently create pressure.
- Bain is on the short side, and Bain too often relies on his ability to overpower blockers rather than developing a repertoire of pass-rush moves.
- Stands up well against the run but is very pursuit-conscious and will take unneeded wide angles.
