The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Packers reached some 50 spots for Drake Nugent, and value like that does not grow back. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. The Brade pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, running back and other spots still on the board.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 19th overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter, though the board says they badly overpaid. A real need, handled.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ja'Lynn Polk. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They paid a round early for Sedrick Van Pran in pick 82, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A real head-scratcher, Drake Nugent in slot 83 is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A straight-up fair deal on Tykee Smith at No. 92, value and slot in agreement. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A surprising call. With quarterback, running back and other spots still to address, they spent Round 3, Pick 34 on Beau Brade, a safety they were not short of.
They reached into another round for LaDarius Henderson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
Shemar Turner in pick No. 137 is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jaylen Harrell at No. 157 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
By-the-book stuff, Christian Jones at pick 183 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Isaiah Neyor at the Round 6 slot is the proof. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A tidy bit of business in slot 219, where Turner Corcoran graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They let Sheridan Jones come to them and pounced at Round 7, Pick 6. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jordan Magee in the 240th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
