The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Texans watched Bhayshul Tuten slide 84 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
The cost of the Nwankpa reach is exactly the players who went right after him. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A wide receiver of that caliber at Round 2, Pick 26 is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Dylan Fairchild in No. 89 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
Steal is underselling it; Luke Kandra at pick No. 126 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Xavier Nwankpa at the Round 5 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Circle this one: Bhayshul Tuten at pick 241 is a fall that decides a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
