The Eagles clearly saw something nobody else did in Chris Hilton Jr., taking him 157 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
The Eagles indulged a want in Solomon while a need in interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots stayed open. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. That Henderson pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 27th pick they get a press-man option on the boundary. The biggest hole, addressed.
A reach for Adisa Isaac in pick 50; a little patience would have been rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They took Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They bypassed pressing needs at interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots to take Javon Solomon, an OLB-EDGE that was not the priority.
Braelon Allen at Round 5, Pick 1 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No edge and no loss on Layden Robinson in pick No. 156; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Joe Milton III slid further than he should have, and slot 172 is lovely value for the quarterback. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at No. 178 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Chris Hilton Jr. well ahead of where he belonged. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
