Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Has the strong leg drive to create movement at the line of scrimmage, consistently putting defenders on the ground.
  • Simmons moves much better than his relatively squat, square frame would suggest. Fluid and flexible, he’s capable of moving in space and latching on to moving targets at the second level.
  • As a pass protector, Simmons plays with good balance and holds up against the bull rush. He has strong hands and does a nice job gripping and latching on once he has his hands on the pass rusher.
  • Cerebral player, quick to react to twists and stunts up front, and he shows an excellent understanding of angles when moving out as a run blocker.
  • Finishes and doesn't quit; competitor with a positive attitude and leadership traits that coaches admire.
  • He’ll consistently finish blocks, dropping on defenders when he has them on the ground. Simmons shows good awareness reacting to twists and stunts as a pass protector, and he has the strength to anchor against bigger defensive linemen.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • He’s often too mechanical as a pass protector, oversetting and getting beat inside.
  • Needs to prove his worth in a straight-ahead running game.
  • His physical gifts were enough to get by against collegiate opponents, but Simmons had trouble with bull rushers when facing quality competition, which is potentially a problem in the NFL.
