Dasan McCullough from Bloomington South High School was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 4-star grade by 247 Sports. After high school, McCullough joined Indiana after being heavily recruited.In 2022 as a freshman McCullough saw action in 12 games and played a total of 476 snaps for the Hoosiers. He recorded 34 tackles, 9 assists, while adding 25 stops. In coverage McCullough notched up no pass breakups, no interceptions, and QB rating when targetted of 101.0. As a pass rusher, he added 19 total pressures, which included 13 QB hurries, 2 QB hits, and 4 sacks on the season.
After season's end McCullough transferred to Oklahoma where as a sophomore for the Sooners in 2023 McCullough played 10 games and took part in 276 snaps for the Sooners. He recorded 23 tackles, 8 assists, while adding 17 stops. In coverage McCullough made 2 pass breakups, no interceptions, and QB rating when targetted of 100.3. Scouting Report: Strengths
- Showed initial quickness and good flexibility to dip and bend. McCullough has active hands and suddenness to his movements, demonstrating the ability to counter inside.
- He has the kind of turn-and-run fluidity to be used in man coverage as well, able to run with tight ends and running backs.
- The talent is there as a sideline-to-sideline playmaker.
- Has the dynamic athleticism to be a force on the edge. He’s a fluid mover with bend-and-dip flexibility as a pass rusher, and McCullough uses his long arms to ward off blockers.
- Good closing speed with long arms to drag down quarterbacks and running backs.
- McCullough takes proper angles and shows impressive closing speed. He’s also outstanding in space and is one of the best coverage guys in this class.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- While McCullough moves well laterally, he doesn’t always get there in pursuit.
- McCullough is on the small side, and his frame is pretty much maxed out. Despite his effort and intensity, he’ll simply get swallowed up at times.
- McCullough is in a hurry to get upfield but shows poor instincts when locating the ball against the run.
