Draft Profile: Bio
Wisner transferred from Waco Connally to DeSoto before his senior season and helped the Eagles capture the 6A Division 2 state championship in 2022. He caught six passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns in the title game while rushing for 75 yards. The 6'0", 200-pound back finished his prep career with 841 rushing yards and 502 receiving yards as a senior. College recruiters saw a solid prospect but not an elite one - ESPN gave him four stars and an 80 rating while 247Sports graded him at 0.89.

He spent most of his freshman year at Texas on special teams in 2023, carrying the ball just 12 times for 73 yards. His best game came against Texas Tech when he ripped off 60 yards and scored his first college touchdown. The coaching staff liked what they saw from the young back who could catch passes and had good instincts with the ball.

Everything changed in 2024. CJ Baxter went down with a season-ending knee injury before the season started. Jaydon Blue struggled with fumbles. Wisner stepped up and took over the backfield, rushing for 1,064 yards on 226 carries with five touchdowns. He added 44 catches for 311 yards and another score. His best performance came in the regular season finale against Texas A&M - 186 rushing yards on 33 carries that helped send the Longhorns to the SEC Championship game. Third-team All-SEC honors capped off his breakout season.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Natural hands catcher who tracks the ball well out of the backfield and runs routes like a receiver
  • Smart runner with good vision who consistently finds the right gap and sets up blocks properly
  • Solid burst through the line when he hits the right hole, shows nice acceleration in space
  • Willing pass protector who identifies blitzers quickly and isn't afraid to step up and take a hit
  • Reliable ball security - rarely puts it on the ground even when taking contact in traffic
  • Runs hard between the tackles and doesn't shy away from contact when yards are there
  • Good feel for when to cut back versus when to hit it straight ahead on zone plays
  • Shows up in big games and handles increased workload without his performance dropping off
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Doesn't have the top-end speed to break away from defensive backs on long runs
  • Gets brought down too easily by arm tackles when defenders get hands on him
  • Pass protection technique needs work - gets overaggressive and lunges at rushers occasionally
  • Limited wiggle in tight spaces when the hole isn't there cleanly
  • Size will be an issue against NFL linebackers who can match his speed but outweigh him significantly
Scouting Report: Summary
Wisner is a back who understands how to find the right gap and make the most of what's blocked for him, but he lacks the physical tools to create much when the blocking breaks down. His receiving skills translate well to the next level - he tracks passes naturally and has the route-running ability to line up in the slot. The concern is whether his 200-pound frame can hold up to the punishment of NFL linebackers who will target him in pass protection situations where his technique flaws become more apparent.

His speed won't turn many 15-yard gains into touchdowns, though his ball security and understanding of zone concepts make him reliable in short-yardage situations. The pass-catching ability gives him value on third downs, but coordinators will need to scheme around his size limitations rather than rely on him to break tackles in space. While he has enough speed to be effective, the lack of bulk that showed up against elite SEC competition will be magnified at the pro level.

The 2025 season will be telling as Wisner battles CJ Baxter for carries after he returns from a knee injury. How he handles reduced touches while maintaining efficiency will be crucial for his draft stock. What works in Wisner's favor is his demonstrated ability to handle a heavy workload and perform when the stakes are highest. His vision and patience allow him to maximize what's there, even if he can't consistently create explosive plays through pure athleticism. The challenge for NFL evaluators is determining whether his skill set warrants a roster spot when bigger backs with similar receiving ability are available.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
