Draft Profile: Bio
Caedan Wallace's football journey began in downtown Atlanta before moving to central New Jersey, where he attended The Hun School of Princeton. As a standout offensive lineman at The Hun School, Wallace excelled on both sides of the ball, contributing to an undefeated season and a state championship. Recognized for his prowess on the field, he was named a U.S. Army All-American and the 2018 prep lineman of the year. His performance in high school earned him a four-star recruit status, placing him as the No. 3 offensive guard and No. 81 recruit nationally in the 2019 class.
Committing to Penn State in 2018, Wallace redshirted his freshman year. He then moved into a starting role, playing right tackle in a lineup that saw him participate in 47 games, starting 40 of them over his college career. Throughout his time with the Nittany Lions, Wallace received an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection in 2023 after starting all 13 games and allowing just one sack for the season.
In addition to his football achievements, Wallace was also a competitive track and field athlete during high school, participating in shot put and discus, where he won the sectional title and finished third in the state. His multifaceted athletic background and academic rigor from a prestigious high school prepared him well for the challenges of Division I football and beyond. His participation in the 2024 East-West Shrine Bowl further showcased his skills.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Displays a loose, balanced movement with a strong ability to regain balance and anchor effectively.
- Combines burst, patience, and excellent weight distribution in pass sets, maximizing his length to control defenders.
- Efficient in navigating combo blocks, showing good timing and body control to reach and impact second-level defenders.
- His athleticism allows him to effectively handle angle-drive and base blocks, pushing and displacing targets laterally.
- Strong play strength in run-blocking, able to attach and steer opponents effectively.
- Recognizes and adapts to twists and blitzes, maintaining good positioning and leverage.
- Exceptional at staying connected in his blocks, showing tenacity and control to secure his assignments.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Tends to overcommit in pass protection against speed rushes, making him vulnerable to inside moves.
- Loses effectiveness after the initial contact due to a narrowing base and rising pad level, limiting sustained power.
- Footwork can be inconsistent in pass sets, with tendencies to open hips prematurely under speed pressure.
- Occasional poor pad level and hand timing can mitigate his natural strength and leverage.
- Has shown susceptibility to quick defenders in space, occasionally beaten to the spot on faster move blocks.
Scouting Report: Summary
Caedan Wallace enters the NFL Draft as a seasoned edge protector with the functional athleticism required to succeed at the next level. His tape shows a tackle with the lateral mobility to slide and mirror pass rushers and the strength to anchor down against power moves. Wallace's ability to engage and drive through his blocks while maintaining leverage underscores his potential value in a zone-blocking scheme. However, his susceptibility to technique lapses, particularly against elite edge speed and quick inside moves, necessitates a focus on footwork and pad level.
In assessing Wallace’s potential fit at the pro level, his inconsistencies in pass set mechanics and tendency to play with elevated pads are concerning. These technical flaws often expose him to counter moves and diminish his otherwise solid base. While he shows promise in his ability to recover and reset his anchor, NFL defensive coordinators will undoubtedly test his perimeter protection skills. Transitioning Wallace inside could exploit his robust guard traits—his punch timing, core strength, and ability to climb to the second level—while shielding him from the more dynamic outside rush threats.
Ultimately, Wallace presents as a developmental prospect with the tools to grow into a versatile interior lineman or a swing tackle role. His draft stock hinges on teams’ evaluations of his ceiling as a flexible line option capable of adapting to both guard and tackle spots.
