Draft Profile: Bio
Amarius Mims from Bleckley County High School was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 5-star grade by 247 Sports. Scouting Report: Strengths
- Plays with appropriate wide base and intelligence, instincts and agility to seal the edge. Aggressive extending with power to punch and looks comfortable in space.
- Mims also flashes heavy hands and has the ability to knock back pass rushers. He shows a mean streak as a run blocker, doing solid work on the second level.
- Outstanding on reach blocks, showing good initial quickness and flexibility to seal the backside. He’s a heady player who is quick to recognize and react to twists and stunts up front, and Mims shows a good sense of timing on combo blocks.
- The physical traits make him a left tackle candidate; he effectively uses his long arms and packs a good amount of power in his initial punch.
- An agile mover who puts his length to good use, using his hands aggressively and landing solid initial punches. Mims can move to the second level as a run blocker, with the coordination and balance to hit moving targets.
- He’s at his best fighting in a phone booth as a run blocker, where his sheer size and strength, combined with his natural knee bend and leverage, can take over.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Had issues against quality counter moves, struggling to readjust. That’s something he’ll see frequently against NFL technicians in the pass rush.
- Sometimes Mims simply gets too impatient to sit back in his set, reaching and lunging and generally playing with poor balance.
- Clearly more comfortable moving forward than sliding back as a protector.
