Draft Profile: Bio
JK Johnson from DeSmet High School was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 4-star grade by 247 Sports. Following high school, Johnson opted to join Ohio State after being heavily recruited.

In 2021 as a freshman Johnson saw action in just one game and played a total of 8 snaps at cornerback for the Buckeyes. He recorded only one tackle, no assists, while adding no stops. In coverage Johnson notched up no pass breakups, no interceptions, and QB rating when targetted of 95.8.

As a sophomore in 2022 he played in 10 games and logged 406 snaps for the Buckeyes. He made 19 tackles, no assists, and had 5 stops. In coverage he totaled no pass breakups, no interceptions, and an unimpressive QB rating when targetted of 143.8.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • A coordinated athlete with good footwork and balance. A heady cover player with above-average · feel and anticipation in space.
  • Has explosive movement skills and the fluid athleticism and change-of-direction ability to come down and cover slot receivers.
  • Trusts his eyes with very good awareness. Has very good reaction skills to break quickly on the ball.
  • Alert defender for zone coverage, showing good understanding of route progressions occurring behind him and a quick burst downhill to break on underneath passes in front of him.
  • Rare hand-eye coordination and agility, vision and third gear to make a living in the return game.
  • His ball skills are very good. Johnson tracks the ball well downfield and has the hands and coordination to come away with interceptions even when Johnson isn’t targeted often.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Better in press coverage than in off coverage, when Johnson can look shaky and unsure when transitioning out of his backpedal. He’ll give up throws underneath.
  • His appetite for crashing down against the run came and went in college, and he’s likely to get walled off easily by bigger receivers.
  • NFL quarterbacks may take advantage of his aggressiveness in man and zone to eye up short routes and go over the top

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
