MOCK NFL DRAFTS
Pick Team Pos Player
#1
Jaguars
QB
No changes here and not an awful lot to say about this pick - the ultimate no brainer - a team with nothing at QB, with a new coach, in need of a new direction and the best player in the draft being at a premium position and fitting an enormous need. I am sure that they will still drag it out on the night for maximum drama though!
#2
Jets
QB
The more the Jets spin their wheels over Darnold the more likely it seems that they will look to draft a QB in the 2021 draft as they continue their never ending cycle of trying to find a long term answer under centre.
#3
Dolphins
WR
Sticking with Devonta Smith to the Phins - although the Jets are now passing on Chase it feels like Smith is now the hottest WR prospect. Again I believe that the Phins will be hoping to see some big improvements in Tua in 2021 and Smith will help (especially given their familiarity with one another).
#4
Falcons
QB
Justin Fields
Ohio State
No change here - as before Matt Ryan is getting towards the end of a solid (if never quite what was anticipated) career and the Falcons will be feeling pretty good that Fields is available to them to pick at #4. His performance against Clemson has saved Justin from falling any further.
#5
Bengals
OT
Again, no change to my last mock - the Bengals have their QB of the future and so need to keep him upright - and the Bengal's bottom 3 ranked offensive line failed to do that in 2020 - Burrow was sacked 32 times (t-2nd most) and to 42 hits (t-5th most) over the first 11 weeks of the season (before suffering a season ending injury) - Sewell is the answer to Joe's prayers.
#6
Eagles
WR
Having given them the top TE prospect last time the Eagles are celebrating that Ja'Marr Chase is still on the board to give their new QB a top tier weapon.
#7
Lions
LB
Micah Parsons
Penn State
Again, no change to my last mock - following on from the Stafford trade I no longer have the Lions taking a QB to build around as due to the contract they will be stuck with Goff for a year or two at least and so even a developmental prospect like Trey Lance seems too early now - so instead they go with one of the top ranked defensive prospects in the draft.
#8
Panthers
QB
Trey Lance
North Dakota State
The Panthers could go in a lot of directions, they have a lot of holes on the roster, but I can see them wanting to bring in someone to be the face of the franchise post-Cam Newton and get the fan base excited for the future. Unfortunately for them in this mock Wilson is no longer on the board and so they are having to go with a much riskier prospect in Trey Lance.
#9
Broncos
CB
Caleb Farley
Virginia Tech
The Broncos need help at cornerback - last time the pick was Surtain but Farley seems to be gaining more momentum heading into the draft. Caleb will be an upgrade to their secondary and solidify the position for a long time.
#10
Cowboys
CB
Back-to -back CB picks as Surtain comes off the board - CB is a premium position and we would expect to see a couple every first round - there were not many teams that gave up more passing touchdowns in 2020 than the Cowboys (and their defense as a whole was bad)
#11
Giants
TE
Kyle Pitts
Florida
Last time we had the Giants looking at Paye but in this mock one of the top offensive weapons is still on the board and so instead the Giants look to give Jones some help as their passing offense was one of the worst.
#12
49ers
CB
Jaycee Horn
South Carolina
The Niners have got to feel pretty unhappy with the way the board has played out - none of the top QB prospects remain and the two top CB prospects have just been taken - a slight reach here for the Niners but they are likely to see a number of changes at this position through free agency and will need help.
#13
Chargers
OT
Rashawn Slater
Northwestern
The Chargers look to have a star in the making in Herbert and need to make sure that they keep him on the field.
#14
Vikings
DE
Gregory Rousseau
Miami (FL)
The Vikings need help along the line and Rousseau was on the best outside defenders in 2019 (opting out of 2020) - a boom or bust prospect with limited tape - the Vikings will take a punt on his upside at this point in the draft.
#15
Patriots
DE
Jaelan Phillips
Miami (FL)
The Patriots are in an unlucky spot at 15 - the QB prospects are long gone as are the top WR prospects - instead they start their rebuild process with Phillips who gets selected right after the player he filled in for with Rousseau
#16
Cardinals
CB
A complete switch this time around for the Cardinals, going from a WR to a CB
#17
Raiders
DE
Kwity Paye
Michigan
Paye has slid down from 11 in this mock but his slide is halted by the Raiders who have to be feeling pretty good about this selection.
#18
Dolphins
LB
Another defensive player in this revised mock, but this time around it is a different speedy linebacker with good cover skills to help protect one of the worst performing defenses in 2020.
#19
Commanders
S
No change here - Washington are another team in flux - don't be fooled by their making the playoffs - this is a team that needs to improve in a lot of areas they are just lucky enough to be in the NFC East (which is a long way from its status in the 80s as the power conference of the NFL - there is no QB prospect worth taking here and whilst they may go with a receiver a prospect like Moehrig offers much better value and we expect to see the rangy safety here is name called around this area of the draft
#20
Bears
WR
Rashod Bateman
Minnesota
The Bears continue the run on receivers with Bateman - again this is a team that could go in a lot of directions - even QB if they like the look of Mac Jones or one of the others falls to them, they could also go with an offensive lineman or even a defensive prospect but we have to pick someone and so we go with Bateman, a big receiver that can make an early impact (who will be throwing the ball to him remains to be seen)
#21
Colts
OT
Christian Darrisaw
Virginia Tech
Having grabbed their QB of the immediate future at least in the deal to take Stafford the Colts are certainly going to need to shore up their O-line so the pick of a tackle makes even more sense than in the last mock - it just a different player.
#22
Titans
LB
Having got past the Phins at 18 the Titans are quick to snatch up Collins - a quick, versatile and powerful presence - he can become a cornerstone for the Titans
#23
Jets
WR
Ideally the Jets would have gone with e CB but there isn't one that feels like value at this point and having got themselves a QB earlier they really need to give the guy someone to throw to (though I cannot believe that the Jets will not draft a defensive lineman at some point in the first round!)
#24
Steelers
OT
Having previously had the Steelers taking a RB a move to the O-Line feels like better value and Cosmi slips a few spots down and into the laps of the Steelers.
#25
Jaguars
OT
Jalen Mayfield
Michigan
The Jags get some help to protect Lawrence - this time around Darrisaw is gone and so they look to Mayfield instead as we see a bit of a run of offensive line players.
#26
Browns
OLB
Browns need more firepower on their defense and they can get that with Ojulari who some argue is the best defensive prospect in the draft so to get him here is a steal.
#27
Ravens
WR
No change here - The only way the Ravens are going to beat the Chiefs is to score more points than them and so they need to mix things up with their run heavy offense to keep defenses honest - so they look to strengthen their WR corps.
#28
Saints
CB
Eric Stokes
Georgia
Interesting spot for the Saints - they would love a CB but the top prospects are all gone as is the top safety prospect so they settle for Stokes (but they could go QB as Brees looks set to retire if they like any of the remaining prospects)
#29
Packers
WR
No change here - I cannot see Rodgers playing anywhere other than Green bay in 2021 and the Packers clearly need to keep Rodgers happy and what QB doesn't like a new toy to throw to.
#30
Bills
OG
Wyatt Davis
Ohio State
A great value pick at this point, one of the top offensive line prospects in the draft and you can never have too many good players along the line as the Bills look to solidify their position at the top of the AFC East
#31
Chiefs
LB
Nick Bolton
Missouri
Again no change here - Mahomes getting paid means that sacrifices have to be made elsewhere on the squad and one area where the Chiefs may find themselves having to make difficult decisions is at LB and so Bolton makes good sense here - a dynamic playmaker that can do it all.
#32
Buccaneers
OT
Fresh off his SB win why wouldn't Tom come back again - and so the Bucs need to do everything they can to help him stay healthy and give him time to throw.
