Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall A-
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
The Patriots finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a A-.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Michael Penix Jr., and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.

On value alone, Linton makes the weekend a net positive. The phones were where this weekend was really won.

That safety hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

The kind of weekend a front office frames and hangs on the wall.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Michael Penix Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
Pick35 Rnd2 Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy at pick 35 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick77 Rnd3 Quinyon Mitchell
No drama and no debate, Quinyon Mitchell went about where he belonged in No. 77. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick103 Rnd4 Blake Fisher
Blake Fisher at the 103rd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick104 Rnd4 Tyler Davis
Tyler Davis in slot 104 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick140 Rnd5 Donovan Jackson
They did well to land Donovan Jackson in the 140th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick160 Rnd5 Mike Sainristil
By-the-book stuff, Mike Sainristil at pick No. 160 squarely in line with his ranking. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
Pick181 Rnd6 Devontez Walker
Devontez Walker at the Round 6 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick214 Rnd6 Steve Linton
Steve Linton at pick No. 214 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick224 Rnd7 Tony Grimes
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tony Grimes in the Round 7 slot. It fits a board better than it fits this team.
