Some picks age like wine; Bryce Foster at slot 184 will need to, sitting 43 spots clear of his grade. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. However the rest shakes out, Newton at that price is a win they earned.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
Olumuyiwa Fashanu in the 6th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No drama and no debate, Troy Franklin went about where he belonged in pick 38. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Josh Newton at the Round 2 slot is the proof. It fills a real need, too.
Byron Murphy II in slot 70 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No edge and no loss on Tommy Eichenberg in pick No. 106; it is a wash and a sensible one. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They went early on Cole Bishop in No. 143, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Bryce Foster in the 184th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
