Somebody in the 132nd pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bears sat still while Max Melton, the No. 96 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They will need Powers-Johnson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.1 · Pick 1 · Marvin Harrison Jr. · WR · rank 1
No edge and no loss on Marvin Harrison Jr. in Round 1, Pick 1; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R1.24 · Pick 24 · Xavier Legette · WR · rank 14
In the 24th pick they get a weapon on the perimeter, outstanding value to boot.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Jonah Elliss · DE-EDGE · rank 47
Jonah Elliss at the Round 2 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R2.21 · Pick 53 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 49
Cooper Beebe at pick No. 53 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 91
Jackson Powers-Johnson at slot 68 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Javion Cohen · OG · rank 112
Javion Cohen at the 95th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Adisa Isaac · DE-EDGE · rank 115
A premium they did not need to pay, Adisa Isaac a notch or two before his time. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.32 · Pick 132 · Max Melton · CB · rank 96
Max Melton at No. 132 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.5 · Pick 141 · Moose Muhammad III · WR · rank 162
Moose Muhammad III in Round 5, Pick 5 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.7 · Pick 143 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 139
Tyler Guyton in No. 143 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R6.7 · Pick 182 · Gabe Hall · DL · rank 174
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Gabe Hall in pick No. 182. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.5 · Pick 225 · Tre Harris · WR · rank 192
Steal is underselling it; Tre Harris at slot 225 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
