Thirty-one other rooms let Kalel Mullings slide, and the Giants were the ones holding the card at the 156th pick. Highway robbery. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
They are betting Weaver proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Whatever Cam Ward becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 3 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
Jermari Harris at the Round 2 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Malachi Moore at No. 65 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
DJ Campbell in slot 67 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Smael Mondon Jr. in the 103rd overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They jumped the gun on DeMonte Capehart, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A big swing on Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick 140, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Somehow Kalel Mullings was still sitting there in pick No. 156, and they pounced on premier running back value. The roster fit checks out.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at Round 7, Pick 4 is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
J.J. Weaver at the 246th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
