Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueC- NeedB TradesB+ FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Texans a B-.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Texans spent Round 7, Pick 28 on Caleb Okechukwu, a name the board had a full 86 spots lower. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

The Hadden pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with running back and quarterback still on the board. They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. The Stefon Diggs deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

The trade work was a quiet net positive.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick39 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
A big swing on T'Vondre Sweat at the 39th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick47 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper at Round 2, Pick 15 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It fills a real need, too.
Pick89 Rnd3 Mike Sainristil
A clean, defensible pick in the 89th pick with a little surplus value in Mike Sainristil. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick123 Rnd4 James Williams
A premium they did not need to pay, James Williams a notch or two before his time. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick127 Rnd4 Kamal Hadden
A want over a need in the Round 4 slot: Kamal Hadden adds a cornerback while running back and quarterback keeps waiting.
Pick164 Rnd5 Javon Baker
They paid a round early for Javon Baker in pick No. 164, more than the board wanted. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick239 Rnd7 Matthew Jones
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Matthew Jones. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick247 Rnd7 Isaac Rex
Isaac Rex at pick No. 247 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick248 Rnd7 Caleb Okechukwu
They left a pile of value on the table to take Caleb Okechukwu this early at slot 248. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
