Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Texans.

The Devin Culp pick is the one that will follow the Texans into the fall. They took him 86 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.

Thomas Jr. falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The Sainristil pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman, offensive lineman and other spots still on the board.

A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Quinyon Mitchell
In the 23rd overall pick they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. More want than need.
Pick59 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
Brian Thomas Jr. at slot 59 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick86 Rnd3 Mike Sainristil
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Mike Sainristil adds a cornerback and leaves interior defensive lineman, offensive lineman and other spots untouched.
Pick124 Rnd4 Ty'Ron Hopper
They talked themselves into Ty'Ron Hopper at pick No. 124, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick128 Rnd4 Grayson Murphy
Grayson Murphy at the Round 4 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick236 Rnd7 Frank Gore Jr.
The board had Frank Gore Jr. higher than Round 7, Pick 16, and the running back fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick245 Rnd7 Devin Culp
Devin Culp at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick250 Rnd7 De'Corian Clark
A real head-scratcher, De'Corian Clark in Round 7, Pick 30 is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
