Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB FutureB-
The Steelers robbed the room for Bech. Final grade: B.

You can draft well and still miss the point. The Steelers did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to safety, which was the need that mattered most.

That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Every board in the league had Mafah lower, and that gap is the story. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Will Johnson
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick83 Rnd3 Jalen Milroe
Jalen Milroe at the 83rd pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick86 Rnd3 Jack Bech
They barely believed it either: Jack Bech still on the board at slot 86. The roster fit checks out.
Pick123 Rnd4 Jordan Phillips
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jordan Phillips at pick 123. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick156 Rnd5 Bhayshul Tuten
Bhayshul Tuten in the 156th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick185 Rnd6 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
No edge and no loss on Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the Round 6 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick209 Rnd6 Tyler Cooper
A slide stopped in the 209th overall pick, with Tyler Cooper worth more than the price. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick214 Rnd6 Phil Mafah
Phil Mafah in slot 214 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick229 Rnd7 Cam Jackson
A reach for Cam Jackson in pick 229; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
