FutureB-
The Bears fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B. The Bears spent real capital to be 32 picks early on Barion Brown, and the board is going to hold them to it. The bottom line is a respectable B.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The Johnson pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
It is not that Sabb is a bad player; it is that the Bears had louder needs to answer first. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick50
Rnd2
Michael Taaffe
Michael Taaffe in No. 50 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick52
Rnd2
Nicholas Singleton
The board had cheaper options than Nicholas Singleton at the 52nd overall pick, and it noticed. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick80
Rnd3
Keon Sabb
They bypassed pressing needs at interior defensive lineman and quarterback to take Keon Sabb, a safety that was not the priority.
Pick118
Rnd4
Chase Bisontis
No drama and no debate, Chase Bisontis went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 16. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick120
Rnd4
Domani Jackson
A quiet steal in the Round 4 slot: Domani Jackson for less than the market said. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick126
Rnd4
Roderick Kearney
They paid sticker price for Roderick Kearney in slot 126, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick155
Rnd5
Barion Brown
Barion Brown at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick194
Rnd6
Kelby Collins
They talked themselves into Kelby Collins at the 194th overall pick, and the board did not agree. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick229
Rnd7
James Williams
They went early on James Williams in pick No. 229, and the value did not follow. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick248
Rnd7
Marquis Johnson
You do not let a wide receiver like Marquis Johnson reach slot 248 and blink. They did not. The roster fit checks out.
