Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB- TradesA+ FutureC
The Bears fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B.

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Barion Brown at No. 132 is 55 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. However the rest shakes out, Allen at that price is a win they earned.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick16 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
A quiet steal in Round 1, Pick 16: Caleb Downs for less than the market said. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick58 Rnd2 CJ Allen
Nice patience on CJ Allen, who had no business lasting to the 58th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick126 Rnd4 Charles Jagusah
Charles Jagusah at pick No. 126 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick132 Rnd4 Barion Brown
This one needs a full-page explanation: Barion Brown in the 132nd pick, miles early. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick194 Rnd6 Kayin Lee
They paid up for Kayin Lee at the Round 6 slot when waiting would have done the job. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick229 Rnd7 Dasan McCullough
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Dasan McCullough well ahead of where he belonged. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick248 Rnd7 PJ Williams
They read the board right and PJ Williams was the payoff at the Round 7 slot. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
