Overall B-

A respectable, level-headed haul for the Steelers: B-.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Steelers spent the 242nd pick on DeMonte Capehart, a name most had 61 spots down the list. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.

The phones were busy but the ledger stayed level.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Terrion Arnold
In the 21st overall pick they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick62 Rnd2 Javon Bullard
Javon Bullard at pick 62 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick85 Rnd3 Sedrick Van Pran
They liked Sedrick Van Pran enough to skip the value, taking him in the 85th pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick120 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray at Round 4, Pick 20 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick121 Rnd4 Johnny Dixon
A premium they did not need to pay, Johnny Dixon a notch or two before his time. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick199 Rnd6 Javon Baker
Javon Baker at No. 199 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick242 Rnd7 DeMonte Capehart
A swing that ignored the value entirely, DeMonte Capehart well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
