Draft Grade — Packers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Packers, and a B- to prove it.

The Cam Jackson selection is the head-turner. The Packers reached 30 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The Grant pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.

Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Jalon Walker
In No. 23 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker. More want than need.
Pick54 Rnd2 Azareye'h Thomas
A premium they did not need to pay, Azareye'h Thomas a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick87 Rnd3 Tate Ratledge
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 87, where Tate Ratledge graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
Pick123 Rnd4 Charles Grant
Circle this one: Charles Grant at pick 123 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick160 Rnd5 Jay Higgins
Somehow Jay Higgins was still sitting there in slot 160, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick200 Rnd6 Cam Jackson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Cam Jackson well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick239 Rnd7 Theo Wease Jr.
Taking Theo Wease Jr. in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick251 Rnd7 Kevin Jennings
Kevin Jennings in pick No. 251 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
