Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Patriots spent the Round 5 slot on Drew Kendall, a name most had 23 spots down the list.

That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Winston Jr. value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
