FutureA
More right than wrong for the Raiders, and a B to prove it. Nobody else had DJ Giddens anywhere near pick No. 143. The Raiders did, by 32 spots, and that gap is the whole story. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Winston Jr. pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, quarterback and other spots. On value alone, Emmanwori makes the weekend a net positive.
The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Jahdae Barron
Jahdae Barron in Round 1, Pick 14 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick37
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
They will replay Nick Emmanwori at pick 37 for years; that is how good the value is. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick68
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jayden Higgins at the 68th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick80
Rnd3
Omarr Norman-Lott
Nothing to complain about; Omarr Norman-Lott went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick108
Rnd4
Kevin Winston Jr.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Kevin Winston Jr. adds a safety and leaves edge rusher, quarterback and other spots untouched.
Pick143
Rnd5
DJ Giddens
Value said wait; DJ Giddens in the 143rd pick says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick180
Rnd6
Jack Kiser
No edge and no loss on Jack Kiser in Round 6, Pick 4; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick189
Rnd6
KeAndre Lambert-Smith
KeAndre Lambert-Smith at No. 189 is a conviction pick that outran the value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick213
Rnd6
Jay Higgins
A tidy little value on Jay Higgins in the 213th pick, a step better than break-even. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick215
Rnd6
Carson Vinson
A real head-scratcher, Carson Vinson in pick No. 215 is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick222
Rnd7
Donovan Edwards
They read the board right and Donovan Edwards was the payoff at slot 222. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick232
Rnd7
Jermari Harris
No drama and no debate, Jermari Harris went about where he belonged in the 232nd overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
