Draft Grade — Browns

FutureB-
The Browns finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B-. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Browns did exactly that with Phillip Webb in pick 254. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Everything downstream of Cam Ward depends on Cam Ward, and the building knows it. The Hill pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Cam Ward
In Round 1, Pick 2 they get the face of the franchise at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick33
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
They paid sticker price for Omarion Hampton in the 33rd overall pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick67
Rnd3
Jordan Burch
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jordan Burch in the 67th pick, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick94
Rnd3
Jordan Phillips
A conviction pick on Jordan Phillips at slot 94 that the board grades a round light. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick104
Rnd4
Savion Williams
A tidy bit of business in pick 104, where Savion Williams graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick179
Rnd6
Chase Lundt
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Chase Lundt at No. 179. The roster fit checks out.
Pick192
Rnd6
Tommi Hill
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Tommi Hill in the 192nd overall pick, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick200
Rnd6
Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan in pick 200 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick216
Rnd6
Torricelli Simpkins III
They reached a country mile for Torricelli Simpkins III at Round 6, Pick 40, and the board is aghast. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick254
Rnd7
Phillip Webb
They left a pile of value on the table to take Phillip Webb this early at the 254th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
