Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB FutureB
The Cowboys kept it disciplined and banked a B.

Call it larceny. Nick Emmanwori sat on the board until the Round 2 slot, and the Cowboys did not need to be asked twice. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

Every board in the league had Harris lower, and that gap is the story. For all the activity, linebacker went untouched, which is hard to explain.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but linebacker.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Ashton Jeanty
Ashton Jeanty slipping to pick 14 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick44 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
You do not let a safety like Nick Emmanwori reach Round 2, Pick 12 and blink. They did not. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick76 Rnd3 Elic Ayomanor
Elic Ayomanor in pick 76 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick80 Rnd3 Deone Walker
No edge and no loss on Deone Walker in No. 80; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick149 Rnd5 Ty Robinson
Ty Robinson at pick No. 149 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
Pick151 Rnd5 Barryn Sorrell
Barryn Sorrell in the 151st overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick174 Rnd5 Jaydon Blue
They took Jaydon Blue at par in the 174th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick204 Rnd6 Oronde Gadsden II
A reasonable price with a little left over, Oronde Gadsden II in slot 204. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick211 Rnd6 Jermari Harris
They talked themselves into Jermari Harris at the Round 6 slot, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick217 Rnd7 Desmond Watson
A big swing on Desmond Watson at Round 7, Pick 1, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick239 Rnd7 Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick247 Rnd7 Torricelli Simpkins III
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Torricelli Simpkins III well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
