Godshandywork DRAFTING FOR THESteelers

Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
D

FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Steelers to a D. The Jaylen Reed pick is the one that will follow the Steelers into the fall. They took him 32 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In slot 21 they get a load in the middle. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick60
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
They paid sticker price for Jayden Higgins in No. 60, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick83
Rnd3
Quinshon Judkins
Quinshon Judkins in pick No. 83 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick102
Rnd3
Jalen Milroe
Jalen Milroe in the 102nd overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick123
Rnd4
Emery Jones Jr.
Emery Jones Jr. in the 123rd pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick156
Rnd5
Jaylen Reed
Jaylen Reed at the Round 5 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick185
Rnd6
Jack Kiser
Jack Kiser at the Round 6 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick229
Rnd7
Alijah Huzzie
They read the board right and Alijah Huzzie was the payoff at pick 229. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
