Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB FutureB-
The Steelers checked most of the boxes and earned a B.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Steelers would have aced it. Jalen Milroe at the 63rd overall pick is 31 spots clear of where he belonged. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up. That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 5 of 9 of the wish list covered.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In slot 31 they get a load in the middle, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick63 Rnd2 Jalen Milroe
Jalen Milroe at the Round 2 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick83 Rnd3 Jordan Burch
Jordan Burch at pick 83 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick123 Rnd4 Tez Johnson
They will replay Tez Johnson at No. 123 for years; that is how good the value is. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick156 Rnd5 Brashard Smith
Brashard Smith in Round 5, Pick 18 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick185 Rnd6 Jack Nelson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jack Nelson in pick No. 185. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick229 Rnd7 Desmond Watson
Desmond Watson at slot 229 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
