Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
The Steelers kept it disciplined and banked a B-.

You can hear the double-takes from here. The Steelers took Javon Foster at the 98th overall pick, roughly 22 spots before his name belonged.

It is not that Foster is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first. Getting Bullock where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
In No. 20 they get a long-term starter on the line, though they paid up to get him. More want than need.
Pick62 Rnd2 Malachi Corley
No drama and no debate, Malachi Corley went about where he belonged in the 62nd pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick84 Rnd3 Mike Sainristil
A tidy bit of business in pick 84, where Mike Sainristil graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick93 Rnd3 Calen Bullock
Value with a capital V on Calen Bullock in the Round 3 slot, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick98 Rnd3 Javon Foster
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went offensive lineman with Javon Foster while clear needs at edge rusher, linebacker and other spots sat open.
Pick119 Rnd4 Maason Smith
Maason Smith at slot 119 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick178 Rnd6 Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at slot 178 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick195 Rnd6 M.J. Devonshire
Nothing to complain about; M.J. Devonshire went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
