Draft Grade — Texans
Overall C
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureC
The Texans got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C.

Somebody took the Texans to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. It nets out a thoroughly average C.

They will answer for taking DT-EDGE early while interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots went begging. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The cost of the Robinson reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Benson.

So much rides on Chop Robinson that the real verdict is a season or two away.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Chop Robinson
A reach on Chop Robinson in the Round 1 slot; the board had better options right there. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick58 Rnd2 Jonah Elliss
Nothing to complain about; Jonah Elliss went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick90 Rnd3 Trey Benson
Trey Benson is a better player than the 90th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick91 Rnd3 Maason Smith
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 91st pick on Maason Smith with interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots unsolved.
Pick92 Rnd3 Malachi Corley
Malachi Corley in Round 3, Pick 29 lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick123 Rnd4 Junior Colson
Junior Colson slipping to pick No. 123 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick125 Rnd4 Kris Abrams-Draine
A clean, defensible pick in slot 125 with a little surplus value in Kris Abrams-Draine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick126 Rnd4 Mohamed Kamara
Mohamed Kamara at No. 126 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick163 Rnd5 Malik Mustapha
They read the board right and Malik Mustapha was the payoff at slot 163. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick239 Rnd7 Aaron Frost
By-the-book stuff, Aaron Frost at pick No. 239 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
