Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall B
ValueC NeedB+ TradesB+ FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Raiders a B.

The Raiders did not so much draft Tahj Brooks as overpay for him, 91 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Mills. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.

On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 Will Johnson
In the Round 1 slot they get a press-man option on the boundary. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick37 Rnd2 Quinshon Judkins
Quinshon Judkins in pick 37 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick41 Rnd2 Carson Schwesinger
Carson Schwesinger at Round 2, Pick 9 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick68 Rnd3 Tre Harris
Nothing to complain about; Tre Harris went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick108 Rnd4 Tahj Brooks
They reached a country mile for Tahj Brooks at the 108th overall pick, and the board is aghast. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick143 Rnd5 Will Howard
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Will Howard in the 143rd pick, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick148 Rnd5 Logan Brown
No drama and no debate, Logan Brown went about where he belonged in pick 148. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick180 Rnd6 LaJohntay Wester
LaJohntay Wester at Round 6, Pick 4 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick213 Rnd6 Rylie Mills
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Rylie Mills reach the Round 6 slot and blink. They did not. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick215 Rnd6 Francisco Mauigoa
They talked themselves into Francisco Mauigoa at No. 215, and the board did not agree. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
