Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall
B-
ValueB+
NeedB-
TradesF
FutureA+
The Raiders bled value on every deal, hence the B-. The Raiders treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the Round 7 slot on Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins a full 133 spots early. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Mondon Jr.. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The Watts pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at cornerback, quarterback and other spots.
A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Walter Nolen
In the 22nd overall pick they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick37
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori in pick No. 37 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick65
Rnd3
Isaiah Bond
The board had Isaiah Bond higher than the 65th pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick68
Rnd3
Xavier Watts
They bypassed pressing needs at cornerback, quarterback and other spots to take Xavier Watts, a safety that was not the priority.
Pick73
Rnd3
Omarion Hampton
Somehow Omarion Hampton was still sitting there in slot 73, and they pounced on premier running back value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick127
Rnd4
Demetrius Knight Jr.
They robbed the room for Demetrius Knight Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick142
Rnd5
Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter in pick No. 142 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick211
Rnd6
Theo Wease Jr.
Theo Wease Jr. in Round 6, Pick 36 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick212
Rnd6
Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. at pick 212 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick216
Rnd6
Seth McLaughlin
The board had cheaper options than Seth McLaughlin at the Round 6 slot, and it noticed. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick222
Rnd7
Lander Barton
Circle this one: Lander Barton at No. 222 is a fall that decides a draft. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick248
Rnd7
Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins
Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins at slot 248 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
