Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedA- TradesB- FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Cowboys: B-.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Cowboys would have aced it. Ahmed Hassanein at slot 174 is 66 spots clear of where he belonged. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

They banked enough surplus on Nelson to cover a lot of smaller sins. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Matthew Golden
In slot 12 they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick44 Rnd2 Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson at the 44th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick76 Rnd3 Kaleb Johnson
They barely believed it either: Kaleb Johnson still on the board at pick No. 76. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick149 Rnd5 Vernon Broughton
Vernon Broughton at pick 149 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick171 Rnd5 Jack Kiser
A reach for Jack Kiser in Round 5, Pick 33; a little patience would have been rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick174 Rnd5 Ahmed Hassanein
They reached into another round for Ahmed Hassanein, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick204 Rnd6 Tyler Cooper
Tyler Cooper in the 204th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick211 Rnd6 Jack Nelson
The board fumbled Jack Nelson all the way to pick No. 211, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
