1k DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the 49ers and Ransom: B-. You could see the war room lean forward. Lathan Ransom at the Round 5 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
The Gregory pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Armand Membou
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick43
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell in No. 43 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick75
Rnd3
Dylan Sampson
A quiet steal in the 75th overall pick: Dylan Sampson for less than the market said. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick100
Rnd3
Zy Alexander
Good price on Zy Alexander in pick 100, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick113
Rnd4
Dylan Fairchild
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Dylan Fairchild in pick No. 113. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick138
Rnd4
Tai Felton
Tai Felton in slot 138 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick147
Rnd5
Lathan Ransom
They will replay Lathan Ransom at the 147th pick for years; that is how good the value is. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick160
Rnd5
Riley Leonard
They barely believed it either: Riley Leonard still on the board at Round 5, Pick 22. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick227
Rnd7
Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes at No. 227 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick249
Rnd7
Kai Kroeger
Kai Kroeger at the 249th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick252
Rnd7
Eric Gregory
Value said wait; Eric Gregory in the 252nd pick says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
